QB NEWS: Colts Releasing Matt Ryan…Heinicke Headed To New Team

  • by

Matt Ryan is set to be released by the Colts.

Yahoo Sports:

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly planning to release Matt Ryan after one year, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The move comes after he was benched for Sam Ehlinger and later Nick Foles during the season.

He leaves the team with a 4-12 record in his starts. He recorded 14 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a career-high 15 fumbles on a 67% pass completion rate. Ryan will still receive $12 million from the Colts, a guarantee that was not in his previous contract.

I really thought the Colts was a good spot for Ryan.

In other news.

Taylor Heinicke is heading to the Falcons.

Yahoo Sports:

The Atlanta Falcons reportedly agreed to contract terms with a quarterback on the second day of the NFL’s legal tampering period.

Taylor Heinicke agreed to a deal with the Falcons that can be worth up to $20 million, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Heinicke’s addition to Atlanta’s quarterback room presumably solidifies that the Falcons won’t pursue Lamar Jackson with Desmond Ridder also on the roster.
